Athletic Team Sponsorship and Community Giveback

The Southern Nevada Police Athletic League also sponsors sports teams to provide an alternative to the violence that unstructured time often leads to.  Being involved in sports promotes friendly competition and camaraderie among teammates. In areas where kids do not have the most desirable family and economic situations, it is important for them to have a place where they belong and a reason to be proud of themselves. Every team sponsored by Southern Nevada PAL is managed or coached by a police officer, and each is required to participate in a community giveback program

Past community givebacks include holding food drives for the Salvation Army and needy families, holding clothes drives for an orphanage in Mexico, holding a”Base-a-thon” in which people pledged money for every base touched during a baseball game and donating the money to an abused women’s shelter. One team toured an abused women and children’s shelter to learn about domestic violence, they then collected food and stocked the pantry to feed the residents.  Participation on a PAL sponsored team not only gives kids something to do, it promotes awareness of social issues and the needs within the community and offers kids new perspectives.
